This week, the PlayStation team was in town for a demo of PlayStation VR. I wasn’t planning on going, but since we passed by the venue this weekend and it didn’t seem like there was a lot of people, we decided to go in.
To be honest, they didn’t have the best organization ever. People could register before going, or register at the venue (what we did). But once you’re in, you’re waiting like everybody else. When we got there and signed up, there was a girl who registered for a demo at 2PM and we ended up playing at about the same time.
Once you’re in, you can only play one game. They had booth set up for Batman Arkham, Farpoint, Eagle Flight/The Deep and a bunch of PlayStation Worlds VR games, Resident Evil, Rush of Blood, etc. that you could play on a separate couch. We didn’t check the second room, since we could only play one game, but apparently there was a racing/flying simulator there.
I tried Batman Arkham which I really liked. It’s a 10-minute demo where Alfred gives you the keys to the batcave and you get suited up and play around with weapons using the PlayStation Move controllers. My brother tried The Deep (where you go shark cage diving) and his girlfriend tried a shoot ’em up game (I can’t remember which game this was).
So in the end, it was nice to try and it looks like a really cool product. I don’t think I’d buy it though. 400€ is what I’d spend on a headset if I was a heavy player – which I’m not.
To get back to the organization, and looking at comments online regarding other PlayStation VR events in other towns, it looks like we just didn’t get lucky. The staff looked mostly bored and was super friendly.
But maybe that’s just me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
