If you’re on Twitter, you probably saw that Bob Dylan just won the Nobel Prize in Literature for “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”
If you’re not familiar with his work, I get what you’d be wondering why he would be given a literature prize. You’re probably telling yourself that with his fame, he’s probably be a very good song writer, but getting a Nobel Prize?
Well, take a look at this little book I got Dylan (my Dylan) for a birthday or Valentine’s Day (I can’t remember which) a few years ago. It’s a first edition of Poem to Joanie, limited to 300 copies and published by Aloes Press in around 1971/72:
I won’t be sharing the full text because I know Bob Dylan is big on not having his work shared online (you can’t easily find his songs on YouTube for example) but if you can find the poem online, I really recommend to have a read. 🙂
